In this Photoshop session I planned a rough idea for a poster that could be used to promote my band. In this session I was able to try lots of different tools which could help me to change my pictures to make them better. I learnt that by adding multiple layers to the picture you can change the opacity of each layer so that it looks like they are all blended into one which works really well to support y band name 'Personality Shifts' as it indicates straight away to the audience that there are more than one person in my singer. This practice poster also helped me to learn some of the basic tools of Photoshop and to see that in order to have a good final product I would need to take high resolution photographs in a photography studio so that it would be easier to cut them out and place them on a poster without it looking too man made.

Typography

In order to find the right font type for both my poster, digipak and website I started to browse different font designs on Dafont, a site which offers a wide range of quirky font styles that you can download for free, this has allowed me to look at a variety of genres for different typography styles such as gothic, horror and disintegrating font types which might suit my piece.
For my poster design I decided to use 2 different font types to convey the band's name and the song/albums name, this was also to help show a difference between the two so that potential listeners would know the difference between the two. The two which I decided to use were October Crow and Blood Lust, I thought that these fonts stood out the most and are still legible once added to a poster so that people know what they are looking at.

Looking at a range of different typography styles allowed me to chose ones which would best suit my final piece. the two font styles here were used in my ancillary poster to see what they would look like on the real thing. This then inspired me to create my final piece with lots more typography that could be easily recognised by an audience as my own artists brand. Using sites such as Dafont has helped me understand how many different types of fonts there are and how each different font style can effect the mood of a piece and make its genre clear to the audience before they have listened to the music. That is why I have chosen quite disjointed font styles to show that my genre is heavy metal so that my audience knows what to expect when they listen to the music.

Feedback on my ideas
This helped me to understand what people thought of my ideas so far. With lots of different feedback questionning my ideas and how I was supposed to do it. This construction helped me think of new ideas and also to question how I was meant to do some of the things that I thought of.
Test shoot 11.11.16
Today I spent 1 hour doing test shots in the photography studio to see what it would be like to film aspects of narrative and performance using a white screen and lighting. This was to see what the performance and narrative aspects of my piece would look like if I chose to do them in a studio.
As with all filming there were both good and bad points to filming in that particular location. In terms of good points, the white screen makes the actor look a lot brighter and helps to contrast the colours which she wears, it also allows for photoshopping abilities as the white screen is easy to edit off of for all of my ancillary tasks. the white screen gives the piece the professional feel that it needs and with the help of professional lighting helps to show my character in new ways. Unfortunately, due to its small size, it is incredibly difficult to do motion shots as the rest of the room comes into each shot, this would be a problem as I want to have both moving and motionless shots in order to give contrast to my piece, therefore motion shots would have to either be doomed in lots to hide the background or they would have to happen in a completely white room so hat there isn't any difference around my actor.
Doing these test shots has helped me see what my filming in there would look like in the future, I was able to test what my shots and photos would look like before taking them for my final pieces. This also really helped with seeing how my actors clothing would work when they were under the lights and being filmed.

Storyboard

As you can see some of my storyboard doesn't have any text on it, this is because I was still thinking about how to plan the lyrics and shots of the characters. These images were rough idea of things that could be used in my final piece but they could all be changed on filming days as there were lots of different ideas for things that I could do.
Creating a storyboard has helped me think of different ideas which I could do to create my final piece. These rough first drafts helped me to identify a possible narrative for my music video, however this could all be changed on filming days depending on the actors and the locations that I use.
Location Planning

Street filming
Near the end of my piece there is a section which would require a street with a lamp to film, ideally I would like to use this location as in the evening the entire backdrop is black so you can't see the end of the road and I think this would look dramatic.

The Old Chapel Hall
This building is also on the list of possible filming locations, the large hall inside would be perfect for long shots and scenes with more people in, however the building is very historic which would limit what I was able to do in there as well as the fact that only primary school events are held in here. That being said if I could get permission to film in there there would be lots more room to film all of my different shots as well as a balcony for high angle shots.

The chapel also has a graveyard next to it which would also be a good location for filming my heavy metal song as this is where they are usually filmed in more professional videos. If I were to film in here I would have to ask for permission and the areas that I would be allowed to film in would be extremely limited due to the sacristy of the site.
Main location planning - Hopkins Hall

This will be my main location for filming most of the inside section of my film. As well as filming in here I will also be filming in a photography studio and in another room with a piano in it.
From researching different areas which I could use for filming I have managed to decide on the best place which would allow me to create a decent piece which represents the heavy metal genre.
Shot List
This shot list has helped me to think of all the different shots which I could use in my music video. Researching things like different kinds of shots will help me think about how I could present my final piece to make it more exciting and interesting to watch. A larger variety of shots would also give my piece more pace and movement which would fit with the heavy metal genre as well.
